Comments:

The Nathadwara school of Rajasthani painting has its origins in the Mewar style but rapidly developed a dynamism and bold rhythm on its own. The themes were centered around the worship of Srinathaji, an aspect of Krishna, personal devotion to whom was the central feature of the ritual and liturgy enjoined by Sri Vallabhacharya. The production was high due to the incessant demand of the pilgrims so that school flourished right into the twentieth century. The school is presently undergoing a revival in which ancient forms are reinterpreted by traditional artists with extraordinary skill and a modern inventiveness. This exhibition represents the new achievements.
